This is loosely based on an idea from Wolf called "What's in the box?"
Each day I'll post a riddle and everyone can post their answer to it. The next day I'll post the correct answer. Fair warning I know a gadzillion groaners and maybe 2 good ones. Once in awhile, I'll post "What's in the box?" and the next poster to say "ME!" will win a siggy. Got it?
OK our first riddle is:
What climbs trees without a sound yet never leaves the ground?
With pointed fangs it sits in wait, With piercing force its doles out fate, Over bloodless victims proclaiming its might, Eternally joining in a single bite. What am I?
This thing all things devours: Birds, beasts, trees, flowers; Gnaws iron, bites steel; Grinds hard stones to meal; Slays king, ruins town, And beats high mountain down. What am I?
My first is in chocolate but not in ham, my second's in cake and also in jam, my third at tea-time is easily found, my whole is a friend who's often around.
Riddle me this: Many years ago, a wealthy old man was near death. He wished to leave his fortune to one of his three children. The old man wanted to know that his fortune would be in wise hands. He stipulated that his estate would be left to the child who would sing him half as many songs as days that he had left to live.
The eldest son said he couldn't comply because he didn't know how many days his father had left to live, and besides he was too busy. The youngest son said the same thing. The man ended up leaving his money to his third child, a daughter. What did his daughter do?
Very good, BEAN'ette! Now riddle me this: Golden treasures I contain, guarded by hundreds and thousands. Stored in a labyrinth where no man walks, yet men come often to seize my gold.
By smoke I am overcome and robbed, then left to build my treasure anew.
