Hi Wolfie! Been awhile.  It's rained here all day, and the forecast calls for more all week. But, that's ok, I guess - at least we might not have a drought.

A kiddie pool might not be a bad idea :)  I know our weather has been bouncing all over the place from heat indexes of 110 F to barely reaching 70. I know there were a few days my heat actually kicked on!

Due to some very late frosts, the plants are all confused; my tiger lilies which usually bloom early spring, are just opening. I fear it's done a job on the crops as well.

I am so OVER this virus and its cousins thing. I think everyone is to one degree or another, and I'm willing to bet we'll be seeing more than one variant. But, life goes on. It might be limping, but it goes on.

I'm STILL waiting on my loveseat to be delivered! At this rate, the living room will need repainting before it gets here! SMH no Well at least it isn't something vital like a fridge or stove. I'm hearing lots are waiting up to 6 months on those and they're MUST haves!   So many are learning about 'settling', because they have to choose from what's on hand and not necessarily what they want, and even then some are having a 3 week wait. It's crazy!

Hi Wolfie,

Yes it has been sometime between postings. Even FaceBook isn't as active as it once was.

Careful of those bedbugs, Wolfie. They're sneaky, and will try to come over to your place. Harder than heck to get rid of.

Pretty excited over the release of my new book. And I'm not the only one, Jadeite has one out as well!

I took early retirement, but am still busy with the writing and creating book covers. As well as 'Adulting'...

Hope all's well with all!

True enough early retirement isn't for everyone. You have to look at amount of $ now vs amount when full age. Because it isn't going to increase.  I got a left-handed blessing, so I went for it.

Sorry to hear your dealing with a bad situation. Hopefully you'll have it sorted soon.

The photo albums are one of the reasons why I don't shut this site down.  Lots of folks memories in there.

Now I'm working on moving. there's a city that's almost a 2 hour drive from here. I'll be making calls first thing Tuesday day morning. I've also started packing up stuff.and yes.i don't enjoy packing n moving.lol. I'll be glad to get moved.then I can take my time at getting moved in. I'm a member of a forum where folks will help out with the actual move if they live close enough and have time to do so..

That's pretty cool about that forum. Not sure if I had to move I'd get any help at all.  But then, I'm not planning on moving. Are you moving because you want to or because you have to? (Just being nosey.)

I'm still pretty jazzed to have a book published.

Combination of have to.need to.and want to.when it comes to moving. I've been packing up stuff that ain't needed at this time.if someone came over and saw everything.they wouldn't know if I'm moving in or out.lol

Just remember to mark the boxes.  I found it helpful to put what room as well as to what it was, as well as tagging what cord went with what. Anything I had to dismantle I placed the screws in a zip lock and labeled that too. When I could I'd tape the bag/attach it to a large part of the item. Made for a quicker assembly.

I have three types of heavy duty totes.i know right where they go.the other type of tote ar see through well most of them are.lol.anyhow.i know each tote by looking at it.the issue might be with the trash bags of stuff keeping stuff together like you suggest does work though.i learned that from my mom.put the screws bolts and nuts in a sandwich baggie.tape it shut.then tape it to the item it belongs with.and of course.have the needed tools needed for each situation in a certain location.for easy access.

Sounds like you have a handle on it to me. The new people downstairs are the first not to ask me (when moving in) if they can borrow a basic tool. How can one NOT have a screwdriver, or hammer?  I asked one guy if he needed a Phillips or a flat. He looks at me and says, "There's a difference?" Talk about scary.

It was broiling here yesterday, 110F, today it's in the 80s.

I've been looking for different ways to save money. But it's so hard to do these days.i had a hearing test done back in march.im hard of hearing in my right ear.called my insurance to find where I can get a hearing aid.now I have to go through one of their doctors to get a hearing aid.plus I also have a eye appointment for eye exam, and hopefully a eye correction as well. For those that say the grass is greener on the other side of the hill.ba hum bug.lol

The guy downstairs was telling me gas is almost $6 a gallon now. And I know groceries have practically doubled in cost.  The one thing I've found is a lot of times if I buy the 'family packs' of say pork chops or what ever, I can divide and freeze it making one or two chops cheaper than if that's all I bought.  In many cases it's cheaper for me to get a premade frozen meal, like Lean Cuisines, then buying all the ingredients to make it. Which is really quite sad, when you think about it.

I buy my meats in bulk.i have a vacuum sealer. I'll vacuum seal each pork chop by it self.this way I get to bake 1 or 2 at a time.then there's hamburger I'll vacuum seal 1LB amounts for hamburger helper or 2 meat patties. and 3LB amounts for meatloaf.

Today is very overcast and rainy, so my sinus is having a field day, and it's muggy feeling.  Temp wise it's really nice though; like 76 I think, only you can't tell because everything is just so sticky.

I think family packs and bulk are probably close to the same thing. I don't have a really big freezer, so I'm pretty selective. Right now I have a nice little variety on hand; pork chops, steak, gyros meat (seasoned thin sliced lamb) is what I can think of off the top of my head. There's other things in there as well, like some veggies, pizza, burritos... It's been too hot to cook, or to even actually eat.  So I've been either nuking something or eating salads or cereal. I really don't think my tummy cares if it gets Cheerios for dinner.

Bulk for me,is large package (s) of what I'm buying at the time.take pork chops for example.the package I buy at time will have somewhere around 15 of them in one package.but to others.bulk for them might be a box full of same packaging.but then again it could be a pallet of it.i have a small freezer as well. that's one reason I started vacuum sealing the different meats.that allows me to put more meats in there without the styrofoam tray's.and that saves freezer space.and to top it off.i don't have to worry about freezer burn.plus the meat is still good by the time I get it all eaten. And that's when I restock that purticluar meat.. I nuke food's as well, and for the same reasons.to hot, and I don't feel like cooking.

I use ziplock freezer bags. No burn so far, but you do need to be sure to squeeze the air out first.  That's where a sealer's got them beat for sure.

If history serves, we're in for either another depression or recession soon, so having a bit put back isn't a bad idea. Well at least 3 days worth on hand is always a good idea, because Mother Nature does have her tantrums, and people are idiots. And you should have a bit of cash on hand too. Logically, if the power goes down, the ATMS, etc. aren't going to work and your plastic will be worthless until it does. And there's somethings you can't stock up on, like restricted prescription meds. Although with many of those you can get them refilled 2-3 days before they run out.  But no pay and no get. So have at least enough for any meds needed on hand, that is if the pharmacy hasn't shuttered due to outage or safety reasons. Which is another good reason to keep any prescription meds refilled before completely out.

Three days of food and water isn't always enough.sub zero temps in February is 2021 caused 5 days and 4 nights of no power. even though I still had running water.i still had nothing to do with it when it comes to drinking and cooking water.the water is that bad here.so I not only had plenty of bottled water and dry foods and canned food.i probably could of gone another 2 weeks with what I had.i didn't lose very much from the fridge and freezer.seeing how I left them alone.. plus I don't think that it got above fifty something degree in here,in which that helped.

Well, that is true, but 3 days is the minimum you should have. I've noticed an onslaught of 'prepping' lists being posted on social media covering everything from 5 days to 5 years for a family of 5, and not one that I've seen so far, has complete information.  Either it's a list that doesn't state how much of what you should have, or, mathematically it appears based on 2 meals a day. And none of them seem to take into account, that given the situation, IF relying on 'emergency' food - folks tend to eat more either for comfort or out of boredom. And never, ever underrate 'comfort' foods.

Criminies! That's a long time without power in winter! I hope you managed to stay fairly warm.

True about 3 days,,2 or 3 meals a day to nutritional value and all.but yet.each household will know their needs more than others.plus, there's at least two levels of nutrition need .one for when you're active.then there's when you're just sitting around or sleeping. comfort food is always a must, during good times and bad times alike. I've been slowly working on that one..I was paying a lot of attention to those site at first, when it comes to how much food a household should have for one,to what foods to buy and stock up on,etc etc.but yet quickly learned that don't work for me.the most I use those sites for.is to give ideas on what to buy for myself.same thing applies to the other stuff as well, like different sources of light during a outage, to keeping them charged. I need to rethink how I do things for this time of year.take power outages for example.it might help to have some place that I can go to (out of the city, and into a wooded area). Seeing how the city will be hotter than the city during a outage.i already have the needed camping gear for that.

For myself, I pay attention to what foods I seem to eat the most of and stock up on that. There's no sense in say stocking up on tuna/whatever if you don't eat it, or are allergic. I do like keeping at least one box of dry cereal that you can eat dry, like Cheerios. That way it can double as a snack food too, and no need to worry if you're out of milk.

71FETXw4NtL._AC_UL604_SR604,400_.jpgA few years back I did get one of these.  No need to worry about keeping it charged, as long as you can crank it. :P  Not sure how the phone charger part works though.

Hi Wolfie!

I'm hearing they're expecting this winter to be harder than the past few.

Still no luck in finding a new place? Do you have a move out by date?

We seldom lose power here (touch wood), and when we do it's hardly ever for longer than an hour or two.  Still I like to have some things on hand, just in case.  And at least I can still use the stovetop in an outage (gas with electric start).  The only thing I worry about is keeping warm in winter.  But I guess one can always hide under the covers.

Hope this winter ain't worse. especially seeing how the natural gas and/or electric prices are suppose to rise.i hope that everyone is prepared for it if it is. On account we could have a repeat of February 2021 if we do.all I had to keep warm back then,is some 3 inch and 6 inch candles, and stovetop. I've bought a buddy heater and some 1LB propane tank since then.and a fan for wood heater stoves.in which it works with the propane heater. Plus I bought some more long burning candles. I suggest using a long stem lighter for the stovetop, on account finger tips don't get burnt that way.guess how I know.lol.

No specific move out date.but still looking.

At least we seem to have gotten better at predicting blizzards and the like. But the main problem still remains - folks don't LISTEN. They don't prepare for 'just in case'. And when we're given that warning they panic.

They 'need' to run out and get things like bread, milk, and toilet paper. Seriously? Why are you waiting until you're on that last roll to restock toilet paper? And nobody ever died from eating dry cereal or not having bread for a few days.

I was looking for a battery - back up  operated heater in case of an outage. Apparently there's no such thing. And I don't trust the kerosene or propane ones. But I do know how to bundle up.

It eeerks me when folks buy and everything else to prepare for the hurricane that's heading their way.then throw away what they can't return.and return what they can for the next time. Had a woman living down the street from me.she flat out refused to take the needed steps to keep her place warm.others did the same.. forget the cold drinks.i have bottled water, and powdered mix drink for it when needed.

There's a buddy propane heater,in which it uses the 1LB tank.its indoor safe.when properly used.

There's this writers' challenge 50000 words in 30 days, takes place in November, and I've been doing that.  It works out to being about 1667 words a day.

At the end you should have a completed first draft... they say 'it's a first draft, it can be messy. Don't worry about punctuation or if it makes complete sense. Just write."  But I'm not wired that way. I'm not saying my first write is always spectacular, but I generally end up doing very little editing of it. Tomorrow, I'll read what I wrote today, correcting as I go, then I'll continue on. Does this slow me up on the 1667 words a day? Not really. This is the 13th day and I'm over half way through. Is it any good?  That remains to be seen.

Time has really flown by. A lot has happened. Rex and I both came down with the dreaded virus this year. Rex was rushed to the hospital and given a dose of anti-viral to help him, which did the job. Bobi, our wonderful building manager prepared meals for us during quarantine; a curry and a soup, leaving the food by the back gate. Such a good man.

Writing saved my sanity during the frequent lockdowns and draconian measures we endured for the past few years. It was hard not to be able to hold our loved ones during times of loss.

And yes, the teddy bears got their story in print. The Bear Rebels go adventuring in Texas. 'The Bears, the Witch and the BookWyrm' is set in McAllen, South Texas. The 2nd book is set in the Texas Hill Country, 'Bears in the Woods.'

Take care and be kind to one another. Have a safe and happy Christmas, everyone.

Jadeite! Wonderful seeing you!

Great news about your books! I bet the covers are wonderful! :P (lol)

Hope everyone is making it through this Holiday Season. Apparently the entire USA has fallen into the freezer. Past few days have been in the negatives with wind chills being double negative digits. Yesterday was -35F.

I've stayed in, not even venturing out to the mail box.

Knock wood - I've avoided the virus.

Hi All,

Another year has flown by, leaving me wondering what 2023 has in store.

When I look back, there seems to be so much bad news - COVID mutating and making more people sick, war in Ukraine, the price of everything going up and another dose of weather extremes. I suppose there's been a lot of good things happening too, but I'm finding it hard to recall any. One good news story is that we are all here celebrating another Christmas and, in Australia, the incessant record breaking rain has stopped and we have been blessed with a mild patch of good weather that should last into the new year. Another bit of good news is that two of our own authors (Jadeite and Valkricry) have published books this year.

Now that's cause to celebrate a productive year and give us all something to look forward to in 2023.

Anyway, my warm Christmas wishes to you all (particularly those in the chilly USA) and hopes that 2023 will bring us some big good news stories.

T-Rex

That reminds me, T-Rex, I need to get a new calendar. I like the ones with large squares I can write reminders and stuff in.

This sent me down 'remember when'. Remember when we use to get calendars for free?  Almost every business would give you one; the bank, the store, even the gas station.

Now you have t buy them - if you can find them.

Val,

Free calendars and memory lane!!

Fortunately, our local chemist still gives out free calendars (when asked). They have nice pictures of landscapes and places, not the cheap ones with just the 12 monthly pages, stapled to a big company advertisement.

This really took me back to when I was a kid and dad would take me out in the old Holden (Aussie Car) to do some shopping for mum. He would always go to the same petrol station and have a beer with the owner and the mechanics while "topping up" the car.

One day, the owner caught me looking at the STP Calendar on the wall (with the bikini clad girls ... or less) and asked me what STP stood for. Their conversation had stopped and now all eyes were on me (including dad's). One of the scariest moments of my short life!

When I looked at the girl and remembered all the other STP girls that I had seen, it dawned on me that the answer was obvious. "STP stands for Strip Tease People".

They all broke out in laughter, leaving me totally confused. A cold bottle of Coke was pressed into my hand and dad hurriedly said his good-byes and before I could ask "What Happened", I was back in the Holden and repeating after dad "I won't tell mum".

I figure as I turned 65 the other day (photo attached of the party), this happened about 57 years ago, so that's how far the free calendar takes me back.

Sad. I just learned one of the long time 3 Paws chatters has passed away. There's not many of us 'originals' left. Soon we will be 23 years old - that's ancient in internet years. We've gone through a lot of changes since our first appearance on MSN chat.  Justjellybean, was one of my 'shoppers' for the very first Trespauze Manor, helping me locate proper era items. Looking over 'rooms' I had built and making suggestions. Unfortunately, her illness had her off the computer past few years.

At least she's no longer suffering.

Here's hoping everyone had safe and fairly uneventful Holidays.

Don't feel bad, Wolfie, I didn't get Christmas either. Just the way things are sometimes.

This is my current book. Available on Audible and on Kindle as well as paperback.  https://www.amazon.com/Twisted-Tales-Judy-Snyder/dp/1685960219.  Jubilee has books out too. Yeah, PLURAL! But, I'd have to post her real name, and that's up to her.  I figure nothing like shamelessly plugging my own work. LOL

I'm working on another novel right now, but it's slow going for me.

It's been cold here, and we got some rain.but no snow..it even got windy a couple of times.. there's a stray dog that's been hanging around the last few days.another one showed up yesterday.first one is friendly enough.but the second one ain't so friendly, and it barks a lot..I took in a lil dog that's at least mostly Chihuahua.he don't like the new stray, that's good.on account he might chase off the stray.

Looks like we're in for some more cold temps, we might hit 16 tomorrow. Past 2 days we've had snow. But it's manageable; not super deep - maybe 4 or 5 inches. Most of the flakes have been those tiny, grainy looking things, no bigger than the top of a pin. The kind that can fall for hours and only serves to make the ground slick. I prefer the big ones, at least they're pretty to watch.

I always feel so bad for strays. Especially in bad weather. Good for you adopting one, Wolfie.

Glad to 'see' you around , Wolfie.

Puppies/dogs are such wonderful companions. I'm sure she is a lot of fun.
