Don't say I shouldn't cry,
when it is on my heart you dine.
You claimed that lightening struck
first time you ever viewed me,
Love at first sight...
I laughed and said give us time,
but you swore you would always be mine.
It was such a pretty lie.
Tell me did you laugh
as you penned love's lines?
Or were they simply copied,
from some dusty book?
Tell me, was it just the thrill of the chase?
So many others had tried and failed,
you just had to see if you could hook,
the one who always danced away?
Or was it simply your love
 burnt too hot,
too quick,
leaving me sick
for want of more?
And all you have is ashes
left in your store?
Look me in my face,
see how the tears have left their trace.
Laugh if you must,
but dare not tell me that they're unjust.
Think of them as wine
to go with the heart on which you dine.
