The weather here was too miserable for trick or treating. I think our temps were high 30s/low 40s. We had both snow and rain, coupled with gusts of wind that were between 35 and 54 mph.

Jerome and I were going to have our own 'fright night' here. Scary movies and junk food.  But by 7:30 I was beginning to doze off!  So much for any kind of 'partying', even our very tame variety. By 8 pm, I was sound asleep.

Of course that meant I was up early, around 4. He heard me moving around and called out softly, "You do know it's Saturday, and you don't work, right?"  lol

My,my,my, haven't we been the quiet ones? I'm hoping everyone's holidays fared well?

Mine was pretty good. 

You know it's been cold for awhile, when the thermometer finally reaches freezing, and everyone talks about how 'warm' it is.  So far the midwest (where I am) hasn't seen any snow worth talking about ( I think maybe 1-2 inches where I am) but the eastern  coast sure got it. One town in Maine had 32.5 inches fall on them! Now, that's a blizzard. 

Had yesterday off work due to a 'blizzard' that hit. Where I am we got between 12 and 14 inches. Today added another 2-3.  My roomie thinks I'm nuts, but I keep feeling we're going to have another before the month is out. I hope I'm wrong, but I seldom am when it comes to the weather.  

Our baker went on a leave of absence, so I'm doing that, as well as cashiering. We got a new cook today, so I'm trying to help him as well. I'm having too much fun.  I may have multiple personalities, but only have two hands....

9 hours without power? Do they at least warn you it's going to happen? What about folks who need the power for medical reasons (thinking CPAKS, oxygen, etc.)?

Work is running me ragged, but for the moment (and it may be very brief) I am the 'golden one'. lol.  Yesterday, our new cook called off sick , so who was doing the baking AND the cooking at the same time?  Talk about overload!  In a way it was kind of funny, because I wasn't even all the way in the building and my boss is all "Punch in, we have no cook and I need you to help me cook today." I just looked at her and said, "Okayyyyyy." Ok, I have like 6 catering orders I need to do the baking for, the morning doughnuts to make, the Boscos (cheese filled bread sticks), but now I also need to cook the breakfast for about 300 kids, plus do the lunches for about 3000, but SURE - . Oh. My. Goodness. Because of the blizzard we haven't received our order, so there's some confusion as to WHAT to make.  But - we survived, I didn't kill anyone, and I didn't burn down the school, AND I did get some help. 

Still trying to fill those dang catering orders though...  on the upside, my boss did put me in for a raise.

Wolfie, something I learned is during a bad freeze (we can hit -25F) is just leave a tap on a bit more than a drip. As long as there is moving water the pipe won't freeze.  Something to think about. Unless you have more than one water main, you only need to do one. 

We're lucky (touch wood, I don't jinx it) our power seldom goes out for any real length of time. Still, being 'country raised', I keep flashlights and candles on hand.  Here's another tip (I'm just chocked full of 'survival' tips, lol) a candle or lamp placed in front of a mirror will double the amount of light produced and if you set your flashlight up on end (so that the beam is pointed towards the ceiling) it will produce a wider area of light. A candle can produce a 10 degree increase in temperature. 

Of course the worst thing about no power for any real length of time can be boredom.  Boredom can be the worst enemy leading to cabin fever, fights, and general irritability. When it comes to entertainment, we've become fairly dependant on electricity (computers, TV, radios, etc)  so I try to keep a few 'non-electric' fun things on hand. A few 'new' books, playing cards, and the like. 

true about letting the faucets drip..but that didnt always work for us..on account it very cold a time or 2....yeah keeping non electric items on hand is a big pluss. that not only keeps a person busy in some way.but it keeps the hands busy as well..mom has always loved candles..so,thanks to her,,we have lots of them..lol..

we live in a home that was built in the 1930's now..and it sets up off of the ground..and there's plumbing running underneath it..in which i do need to insulate it some how..im thinking of the foam in areol sol cans..i used that on the outside fauchet pipe.and it works great as insulation..

Here we are almost through February, and still getting the negative temps!  Looks like we may be getting a late spring.

Well, dang - nearly a month without anyone posting anything? Eh, 13 years is a long time in internet years, and we have weathered dry periods before...

*Shew* After a winter that seemed it would never end (we were still wearing coats in May) we've finally gotten some summer heat. I'm on my first week of lay-off and haven't done a bloomin' thing, except for laundry, and work on graphics for Trespauze.  

If I can get my tush moving before the heat sets in tomorrow, Jerome and I will be pulling weeds from around the house. Then we might take a walk up to the McDonalds (about a mile). It sits next to a Walgreens and there's some things I want to check out.  

Wolfie, do you mean make the banner a hyperlink to the site, or to place the url on the banner?

 Well now, Wolfie that depends a lot on where you're attempting to place a clickable banner.  Generally if you are using the banner in a link exchange, then the webmaster/mistress of that site takes care of that. You simply supply the banner and url to them.  If it is for on a main webpage of a site then you should have access to the c-panel and perform the following steps:

1. Upload and add the banner to the site using the domain's uploader tool. It is also possible to upload the banner to an image hosting site and, using the IMG code, insert it into the website's html 

2.Navigate to the web page html layout code. The banner will have a code that reads <img src="http://yourimage.jpg">. To make the banner clickable, determine the web address to be connected with the banner (for instance, the home page of the site). Use the following code to create a free clickable banner: <a href="&lt;img">http://site-you-want-banner-to-navigate-to.com">&lt;img src="http://yourimage.jpg"/>

3.Test the free clickable banner after publishing the web page. A cursor over the banner should cause the desired location site to show up in the bottom left of the computer screen. If it doesn't work, recheck the html code and ensure there are no stray characters, symbols or spaces.

 If you wish to use the banner say on other sites (providing the host doesn't mind) it really depends on what the site offers you. Here we use the rich text editor in comments, but many others (like Facebook) do not offer this option.  With the rich text editor you don't even need to know coding. 

At the top of a rich text editor you'll see a mini c-panel. It looks something like this:

If you don't see something similar to this odds are you can't post pictures let alone a clickable banner. So first you want to upload a picture. Here we have the Attach Images found at the bottom of the posting area, or if the picture is loaded somewhere else you can use that little tree icon that requires the url of the picture.  Personally, I prefer  the Attach Image (s). Once the picture is  loaded into the text area, click the image (it will turn blue) then click the link icon (it looks like a few links of chain, below the underlined A.)  A small menu will open. In the top line you put the URL of where it is you want folks to go. Then under 'target' you can choose whether you want it to open in a NEW window , or in the same window.  If you are using the banner on someone else's site, I'd opt  for NEW, just so no one can read it as you're hijacking 'their' members off the original site.  Just click 'insert' and you're done!

So, yesterday I was minding my own business and working on one of my scary lil stories. Those of you who are writers or even readers know how deeply you can get immersed in that. You're 'there' and not 'here'. Anyway, I was succeeding in giving myself a case of the heebies, when suddenly, the woman downstairs SCREAMS! It was a scream of utter terror practically giving me a heart attack. I jumped up unsure what to do first; grab my bat, dial 911, or wet myself. I grabbed the phone and leaning down the stairs bellowed , "Hey! You ok?" Nothing, for several heartbeats that seemed an eternity, there was silence. That seemed creepier than the scream. Scenarios (all ill fated for her) tumbled through my head, and I called out once more, straining to hear anything, when she pops her head out all giggly, as if she'd been laughing hard at something and says to me, "Are you ok?"

WTH? SHE'S the one who screamed..."Umm...Yeah - wasn't that you that screamed?" 

"No, that was my sister - she saw a spider," the woman starts laughing again. Just then her sister starts protesting, fairly loud that it was a BIG spider.   Okayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy...

In other *news*, I've gotten the paint for the living room and entry, it's called sunlit beach.  But, due to the humidity/dampness around here, I haven't been able to start.  As, most of you know (at least I think I've mentioned it before) I do all of my laundry by hand and hang it to dry over the shower rod. Since it's taken forever to dry, I assume painting would be the same.  We did have four days of storms that left much of the city flooded.  But, the way I see it, this way when the weather will co-operate then I'm ready to go.  I'll start the prepping for it soon. 

Since Jerome, my roommate, is away for an extended time, I decided to make good my threat of cleaning his room.  It's a pretty good thing I've had disaster training. I'm on day 3. I mean literally trash - empty soda bottles, food wrappers, old receipts, etc. Literally could not see the floor!   Just having way too much fun.

Also the job of baker for my unit, was finally posted and I placed a bid on it.   We'll see where that goes.
