You know it's been cold for awhile, when the thermometer finally reaches freezing, and everyone talks about how 'warm' it is.  So far the midwest (where I am) hasn't seen any snow worth talking about ( I think maybe 1-2 inches where I am) but the eastern  coast sure got it. One town in Maine had 32.5 inches fall on them! Now, that's a blizzard.

Had yesterday off work due to a 'blizzard' that hit. Where I am we got between 12 and 14 inches. Today added another 2-3.  My roomie thinks I'm nuts, but I keep feeling we're going to have another before the month is out. I hope I'm wrong, but I seldom am when it comes to the weather.

Our baker went on a leave of absence, so I'm doing that, as well as cashiering. We got a new cook today, so I'm trying to help him as well. I'm having too much fun.  I may have multiple personalities, but only have two hands....

OMG Val, you folks really are copping it as far as temperature goes. I could never survive in such cold weather, no jokes. We are at the other end of the spectrum at the moment; clocked 97+ yesterday. We do have a fan (no A/C) but try to use it sparingly. Our whole nation has been asked to use electricity as little as possible in an effort to conserve power as we are in crisis mode. Power gets shut off for up to nine hours at a time, but at least they vary the areas.

Poor you, you really are taken as a 'jack of all trades'. What would the school do without you?

9 hours without power? Do they at least warn you it's going to happen? What about folks who need the power for medical reasons (thinking CPAKS, oxygen, etc.)?

Work is running me ragged, but for the moment (and it may be very brief) I am the 'golden one'. lol.  Yesterday, our new cook called off sick , so who was doing the baking AND the cooking at the same time? evileye Talk about overload!  In a way it was kind of funny, because I wasn't even all the way in the building and my boss is all "Punch in, we have no cook and I need you to help me cook today." I just looked at her and said, "Okayyyyyy." Ok, I have like 6 catering orders I need to do the baking for, the morning doughnuts to make, the Boscos (cheese filled bread sticks), but now I also need to cook the breakfast for about 300 kids, plus do the lunches for about 3000, but SURE - . Oh. My. Goodness. Because of the blizzard we haven't received our order, so there's some confusion as to WHAT to make.  But - we survived, I didn't kill anyone, and I didn't burn down the school, AND I did get some help.

Still trying to fill those dang catering orders though...  on the upside, my boss did put me in for a raise.

hope you get the raise...and a bonus..and a award as well..

i've often wondered what i need to do if we lost power and or water dureing a winter freeze...we've got 2 battery oprated lanterns,1 rechageable lantern 3 oil lamps and i dont know how many flashlights if power goes out.a 55 gallon barrel of water in the bathroom, just in case the pipes freeze up..but repairing the pipes is a new ball game..on account i dont have the parts for the repairs,if needed.and it'd be hours for a plumber to get here,if at all...i know of a couple who was fully preppared last winter.on account they went out and bought up ever thing they needed for a winter freeze last year..they stayed warm n comfy on account they had what was needed.which included his meds that he needed during each freeze..

Nine hours without power is nothing uncommon. This morning we were warned that power would be out from 8 this morning till 10 tonight. Nothing happened, at least not in our area. Sometimes the idiots flip the wrong switch, so there is no warning at all. The folks on oxygen - hmm, well tough luck for them - at least, that seems to be the attitude.

Val, a raise is Always welcome! Hope you can keep up the good work. Hope you have some holidays coming up soon, so you can recuperate.

Wolfie, it is very seldom that we are without running water. That is one thing we can be thankful for. Since 2008, we always have a small 'generator' which works off of a car battery, and can run a TV from, plus one electric globe. We also have a rechargeable two- tube fluorescent light, plus an oil lamp , two flashlights and plenty of candles. Our big problem comes when the fridge starts defrosting, especially in summer. Cooking is no problem. We have a two-plate gas cooker plus a small gas tank to boil water or warm up food etc.

Wolfie, something I learned is during a bad freeze (we can hit -25F) is just leave a tap on a bit more than a drip. As long as there is moving water the pipe won't freeze.  Something to think about. Unless you have more than one water main, you only need to do one.

We're lucky (touch wood, I don't jinx it) our power seldom goes out for any real length of time. Still, being 'country raised', I keep flashlights and candles on hand.  Here's another tip (I'm just chocked full of 'survival' tips, lol) a candle or lamp placed in front of a mirror will double the amount of light produced and if you set your flashlight up on end (so that the beam is pointed towards the ceiling) it will produce a wider area of light. A candle can produce a 10 degree increase in temperature.

Of course the worst thing about no power for any real length of time can be boredom.  Boredom can be the worst enemy leading to cabin fever, fights, and general irritability. When it comes to entertainment, we've become fairly dependant on electricity (computers, TV, radios, etc)  so I try to keep a few 'non-electric' fun things on hand. A few 'new' books, playing cards, and the like.

Thanks for all the handy tips Val. I agree, we are so dependent on electricity for our power, we are generally lost without it. I, at least, am lucky. I have knitting, crochet work and even embroidery to do. I also Love reading. If push came to shove, I even have my aunt's old treadle sewing machine (straight-stitch only) that I could use. With Shenay being here so often, we have numerous board games - lol, only Ray would be at a loss, though if he were pressed, maybe he would play too.

I am so excited! My Christmas and birthday gifts are almost completed. Ray is having our kitchen and bathroom floors tiled - with ceramic tiles. The old Marley tiles which we had since '71 had taken a pounding and were looking extremely grotty. The bathroom tiles are a medium shade of grey, and are non-slip. The kitchen is a very pale salmon and cream design - not my first choice, but we got them cheap from Ray's friend - also non-slip. I am just too thankful to have a new kitchen floor, no matter if it were sky-blue-pink with purple dots!

true about letting the faucets drip..but that didnt always work for us..on account it very cold a time or 2....yeah keeping non electric items on hand is a big pluss. that not only keeps a person busy in some way.but it keeps the hands busy as well..mom has always loved candles..so,thanks to her,,we have lots of them..lol..

sky-blue-pink with purple dots!??i dont even wanna go there with that one..LOL

Sounds like you may have some exterior wall pipes, Wolfie. Might be worth opening up the wall and beefing up the insulation around the pipes.

Fergie, I so understand how you feel about the new flooring. Our livingroom carpet is so old, and worn, I don't think I'd care if new was rainbow colored either.

I'm tuckered, plain and simple. You know you've been worked hard, when the boss says,"Get a stool and sit at a register for awhile and relax a bit." Ok, you're still working, but we're only suppose to sit if given a doctor's excuse.

I had baked a pan of brownies at work (along with playing utility person, cooking breakfast for 300, and the other baking I had to do.) It's different than making them at home. For one thing the 'pan' is a super large sheet; like 3ftx2ft. For another, a convection oven does not bake like a regular oven. My first batch was so burnt, we could have used it to reshingle a roof, or for extra traction under a car's tires.  My 2nd attempt was much better. Now here's the problem I'm having: how do I cut them all uniform size?  I came close, but not exact.

Oooh... my friend just called -we're going shopping! Dollar store and Aldi's! Sad I get excited over grocery shopping - lol

we live in a home that was built in the 1930's now..and it sets up off of the ground..and there's plumbing running underneath it..in which i do need to insulate it some how..im thinking of the foam in areol sol cans..i used that on the outside fauchet pipe.and it works great as insulation..

Well, if you can crawl up underneath the house, wolfie, you might consider those foam insulation pipe sleeves I've seen at Home Depot, then use the aerosol around the seams to seal them. If there's much length to the pipes, sleeves might be more cost effective.

I do like the foam in aerosol cans though, quick and easy.

Since the roommate is out for the day, I want to take advantage and mop the kitchen and bath floors. Trouble is, I don't seem to have any energy today. I keep yawning... but it has to be done.

yeah the insulation pipe sleeves is a good and cheap route to take..but i do prefer the foam in the aerosol cans though.on acount i get to decide the thickness for insulation and all..and the next i have to worry about it..is when i have to some piope repair..

Dang, I feel as if someone beat me with a ball bat. Across my shoulders, my hips, even the palms of my hands ache.  I think it's all the lifting, and carting stuff around I've been doing. Muscles being used differently, and a lot is above my head.  You know that little hump where your neck and shoulders meet? That aches so bad, it actually kind of burns...

On the up side, since my start time now coincides with several others, I've been getting a ride to work. Which is nice, especially since it's been freezing and lower in the AM.  I do not miss putting on 3 or 4 layers of pants, and wearing 2 coats just to be somewhat warm on the way to work.

Oh Val.... I feel for you. I hope you get relief soon, both job wise and physically. No need to go to a gym, eh? Soon you will be in a class all of your own, as far a weights are concerned. The other ladies better watch out - if you pack a wallop, it will be a knock-out.

Glad to hear your life isn't all hell on ice. I have been following your weather - hope you don't mind? It's nice to know someone is considerate enough to give you a lift.
The coldest I have ever experienced was 12F on the back of a motorbike, factoring in wind-chill. Ray and I were frozen stiff - took us more than half an hour of thawing out before we started shivering. I know the feeling of layers of clothing to keep warm. Eventually one feels like you are wearing a space-suit. Not very comfortable. Lol, at least those crazy days are over for us. Ray sold his bike in the early '90s (I think). Here, we peaked 104 today.

Fergie, I don't mind you following our weather. I really can't imagine why anyone would.  Unless weather has become top secret??? lol

I was looking forwards to an 'easy' day today, but 2 people called off so I had to cover for them.  So much for 'easy' day.  Tomorrow will be harder though, hopefully the girls will be back. I need to make biscuits for Friday's breakfast, and dinner rolls to go with lunch.  I did have a good chuckle at our maintenance guys today - they were asking me if I was taking 'bids' to become a 'guinea pig' (taster)  for my baking! lol  I took that as a sign that my stuff is cutting the grade.

The cook is beginning to find his ground, so I don't have to be right on top of him every minute.  That helps.  Of course the mgr. is a bit stressed because we are expecting a state inspector to come in. So we have to be sure we are following the approved recipes to the letter.

We have a 3 day weekend coming up, really looking forwards to it...I'm just tuckered.

Lol Val, I am a bit of a 'weather freak', I try to keep up with anything unusual going on, on that front. I even check our weather a few times a day, via internet. It's just one of my little idiosyncrasies.

What an ego booster it must be for you. You have got to be doing something right for folks to be volunteering to taste your culinary delights. Good for you girl! It sounds like you will pass with flying colours when the inspector pays their visit.

What holiday is coming up for you guys? Our first bank holiday is on the 21 March - Human Rights Day. It falls on a Saturday, so not really a long weekend. Our big long weekend is at Easter, when everyone gets the Friday and Monday off. Hah! But that falls during the school holidays. Big preparations are being made for that. Our daughter, husband and two children will be coming up from Port Elizabeth. This will be the first time since Angel passed away that we will see all of them. Unfortunately, our eldest grandson has to stay home to look after the house and dogs.

I believe it's President Day coming up. All it really means for me, is I'll have to work harder the rest of the week. I'm glad tomorrow is Friday. It's been a hard week on everyone. I'm still terribly achey, and a few times I felt close to tears for no good reason whatsoever.

For Easter (or to be politically correct Spring Break) we'll get a week off.  So far I don't have any plans for that. Oh, but it will be wonderful for you to have your kids home! Will you be having an egg hunt?

Finally got my 1099 (unemployment paid) for last year, and have my W2, so this weekend I plan on doing my taxes.  If I get enough back, I'll pre-pay the summer rent like I did last year.  That made such a difference both financially and emotionally for me. I'm sure it took a worry off my landlord too.  I've been trying to squirrel a bit away for that long dry haul. 3 months without a paycheck is a LONG time, and when you have no funds to do anything (not even to get craft supplies or even McDonalds) it can seem endless.  But, I'm hoping this year is different. I really want to paint the apartment, and maybe redecorate the living room a bit.

Goodness - it has been awhile hasn't it? But, I see I haven't missed anything.

Work has been kicking my tush, and that's putting it nicely. Our baker still hasn't come back (rumor is she won't be), so I'm still doing the baking as well as helping out the cook, and doing whatever else needs doing. It's a sad fact that we always seem to be short handed. At least we've finally gotten a 'utility' person - just a fancy term for stock guy. That's really helped ease up the pressure on me and the cook.

Our cook is a nice guy, even if a bit high-strung (he's going to quit at least 3 times a day) and he really is not use to the sheer volume of cooking we need to do. He can't seem to get the hang of multi-tasking and quantities needed.  Sometimes, when he's complaining to me it can feel as if he is blaming me. *sigh* "And that's my fault, how?", I'll say, he's quick to assure me that blaming me is not the case.  And then he deals with the language barrier...which I think the girls -for whatever reason- purposely increase with him.  Or it could be because our past cooks have been bilingual I just never noticed it before.  All I know is he sure gets in trouble for all the food we end up either donating or tossing because he made too much. Although he also gets in trouble if we run out.

Other stuff I've been doing is re-working some graphics for Trespauze Manor.  I'm trying to cut down on external links and have more 'in house' surprises. I did succeed in creating a small book in swf format that you can flip the pages in. That's pretty cool.  lol  I'm also looking for a new home for it, as the hosting site it was on no longer exists.

Spring seems to finally be making its way here. I spotted a robin yesterday! Yippee!

Lately, I am under a lot of stress, and it's beginning to tell on me. The nightmares are back. Suffering a lot of tummy problems.  Worst of all is that tiny demon called anxiety has been poking its head up.

I try, I really do, but it just seems like I'm always letting someone down, or it just isn't enough.  I feel like everyone has a knife and my back has a target on it.

I'm hanging in there.  Guess I'll just keep pitching as best I can.  Being stressed amplifies everything though.  So it probably isn't nearly as bad as it feels. It seems as we near the end of the school year, everyone's temper gets shorter. I've never been able to figure out why.  Maybe everyone  just starts stressing over the 3 month lay off ?

Hi all, I am so sorry for the hiatus in my communications, but my internet was down for about 6 weeks. I was staggered to find over 400 new emails awaiting me when I was up and running again. I never knew I was so popular, LOL, I am still sorting through the last 200. Found I had five or six letters to answer - phew! My MB are being used up fast; just hope I have enough to post a story, if not, it will be only next month.

Val, I was dismayed to find that I had missed your birthday. I apologize profusely. I hope you had an absolutely glorious day and got spoiled rotten. I wish you the best of health, prosperity, and God's richest blessings. May only good things come your way.

Wolfie, good luck with the tilling - sounds like hard manual labor to me.

I quite agree, Wolfie, summer is the time of year things slow down alot. Congrats on being made a mod!

Fergie! I did have a fantabulous b-day, thank you. My daughter bought me my first ever brand new bed! Not only did she get the mattress and springs too, but a new sheet set and comforter. She and her boyfriend also took me out to eat.  Talk about getting spoiled.

I'm hoping to buy paint next week or so. I really want to redo the apartment. You know how it goes - after a few years things just start looking kinda sad.  I'd gotten a reward card (a kind of debit rebate) for $150 from my phone company, and decided I'd squander it on sprucing things up a bit. I can't afford a complete overhaul but really shopped around and have gotten a set of new curtains, slip cover for the sofa, a Tiffany style lamp (something I've always wanted but could never justify the cost), and some area rugs.  My landlord says he'll reimburse me for the paint!  *Excited!*

Well, I need to finish getting ready for work - only 9 more days and the layoff starts!

*Shew* After a winter that seemed it would never end (we were still wearing coats in May) we've finally gotten some summer heat. I'm on my first week of lay-off and haven't done a bloomin' thing, except for laundry, and work on graphics for Trespauze.

If I can get my tush moving before the heat sets in tomorrow, Jerome and I will be pulling weeds from around the house. Then we might take a walk up to the McDonalds (about a mile). It sits next to a Walgreens and there's some things I want to check out.

hyper link..i think..in other words.a person will be bale to just point to the banner.and click on it.in which that'll take them to where it's suppose to.

Well now, Wolfie that depends a lot on where you're attempting to place a clickable banner.  Generally if you are using the banner in a link exchange, then the webmaster/mistress of that site takes care of that. You simply supply the banner and url to them.  If it is for on a main webpage of a site then you should have access to the c-panel and perform the following steps:

1. Upload and add the banner to the site using the domain's uploader tool. It is also possible to upload the banner to an image hosting site and, using the IMG code, insert it into the website's html

2.Navigate to the web page html layout code. The banner will have a code that reads <img src="http://yourimage.jpg">. To make the banner clickable, determine the web address to be connected with the banner (for instance, the home page of the site). Use the following code to create a free clickable banner: <a href="&lt;img">http://site-you-want-banner-to-navigate-to.com">&lt;img src="http://yourimage.jpg"/>

3.Test the free clickable banner after publishing the web page. A cursor over the banner should cause the desired location site to show up in the bottom left of the computer screen. If it doesn't work, recheck the html code and ensure there are no stray characters, symbols or spaces.

If you wish to use the banner say on other sites (providing the host doesn't mind) it really depends on what the site offers you. Here we use the rich text editor in comments, but many others (like Facebook) do not offer this option.  With the rich text editor you don't even need to know coding.

At the top of a rich text editor you'll see a mini c-panel. It looks something like this:

Rich text.png

If you don't see something similar to this odds are you can't post pictures let alone a clickable banner. So first you want to upload a picture. Here we have the Attach Images found at the bottom of the posting area, or if the picture is loaded somewhere else you can use that little tree icon that requires the url of the picture.  Personally, I prefer  the Attach Image (s). Once the picture is  loaded into the text area, click the image (it will turn blue) then click the link icon (it looks like a few links of chain, below the underlined A.)  A small menu will open. In the top line you put the URL of where it is you want folks to go. Then under 'target' you can choose whether you want it to open in a NEW window , or in the same window.  If you are using the banner on someone else's site, I'd opt  for NEW, just so no one can read it as you're hijacking 'their' members off the original site.  Just click 'insert' and you're done!

I tossed this one together so you can see how it works:

DoomsdayPreppers.map_.-600x335.jpg

I hope that helps!

So, yesterday I was minding my own business and working on one of my scary lil stories. Those of you who are writers or even readers know how deeply you can get immersed in that. You're 'there' and not 'here'. Anyway, I was succeeding in giving myself a case of the heebies, when suddenly, the woman downstairs SCREAMS! It was a scream of utter terror practically giving me a heart attack. I jumped up unsure what to do first; grab my bat, dial 911, or wet myself. I grabbed the phone and leaning down the stairs bellowed , "Hey! You ok?" Nothing, for several heartbeats that seemed an eternity, there was silence. That seemed creepier than the scream. Scenarios (all ill fated for her) tumbled through my head, and I called out once more, straining to hear anything, when she pops her head out all giggly, as if she'd been laughing hard at something and says to me, "Are you ok?"

WTH? SHE'S the one who screamed..."Umm...Yeah - wasn't that you that screamed?"

"No, that was my sister - she saw a spider," the woman starts laughing again. Just then her sister starts protesting, fairly loud that it was a BIG spider.   Okayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy...

****************

In other *news*, I've gotten the paint for the living room and entry, it's called sunlit beach.  But, due to the humidity/dampness around here, I haven't been able to start.  As, most of you know (at least I think I've mentioned it before) I do all of my laundry by hand and hang it to dry over the shower rod. Since it's taken forever to dry, I assume painting would be the same.  We did have four days of storms that left much of the city flooded.  But, the way I see it, this way when the weather will co-operate then I'm ready to go.  I'll start the prepping for it soon.

Since Jerome, my roommate, is away for an extended time, I decided to make good my threat of cleaning his room.  It's a pretty good thing I've had disaster training. I'm on day 3. I mean literally trash - empty soda bottles, food wrappers, old receipts, etc. Literally could not see the floor!   Just having way too much fun.

Also the job of baker for my unit, was finally posted and I placed a bid on it.   We'll see where that goes.

Paper mache sounds like a good idea, Wolfie! lol

More drama from downstairs. I hear her yelling at someone, "Get the F*** out! Get out of my house!" Then something about "You're scaring my kid! Stop it! Put that away! " Followed with more demands that this person leave. Then I heard a small popping sound, maybe a small pistol, maybe a fireworks...but it all went quiet. So, I called the cops.  Apparently it was just another fight between her and the live-in boyfriend with a coincidental m-80 or something going off.

I'm fine, Wolfie, even though there's a bit more drama than I care for right now.

I've been doing a lot of work on Trespauze Manor. I'm in the coding stage now. Soon, I'll be putting it on line.

It seems like we're having delayed seasons this year. Snow until April. Winter coats until early June, now we're getting all the rain we normally get in April.  It's wacky. Apparently it has also given rise to a new strain of influenza.

Hope all is well there, and you haven't been flooded out.

Thunderstorm knocked out our power for 3 hours this morning. There's something in the air making me feel tired and a bit on the puny side. I don't know, just bleh feeling.

im glad the power is back on..and im sure that the bleh feeling will pass..

because of all the rain storms we been getting this year..we've been having more power outages then normal.in which one lasted
20 1/2 hours. so i started planing on them.with oil lamps,,lanterns,,flashlights n all..we even have a emergency radio, that runs on batteries and/or electric..and it has a solar panel and a hand crank as well as a power cord for recharging it..

OMW! I can't believe half of the year is gone already!! Where does the time go to? I have achieved absolutely nothing this year, or so it feels.

Wolfie, you are all jacked up for power outages, far more than we are, and our power goes off at Least once a week. At least our power usually goes off for only four hours at a time. Usually at the most inconvenient times, like when we are cooking supper, or just before bed time.

Val, how is the painting getting on? I see you haven't had too much rain in the past week. Were you affected by the floods at all?

Shenay is on her mid-winter break. We fetched her from school on Friday. She was so excited to show us her report, she could hardly sit still in the car. Of course, she aced all her subjects, and achieved 93% for maths. If she can carry on that way, the world is her oyster. All the teachers made lovely remarks about her, some referring to her as a "young lady".
She has grown, again !! She is only about 2 inches shorter than me. I can now fit into her shoes. The next time I knit for her I will have to use a size 32 pattern. We just went through all her winter clothes - had to turf out all the size 11-12 stuff; packed it up for those less fortunate.

howdy fergie :) yeah.our power outages increased when the rain storms increased.and i got tired of not having the needed light for when it's dark out.so i stocked up on things.i even collected some plastic bottles.in which i filled with water.then put them into the freezer.now i have ice in the fridge and freezer, for the outages.and they cut down on the electric bill at least some what, seeing how they keep them plenty cold longer.

you wanna come over and paint my kitchen when you done with your painting val? LOL

glad to hear that your young lady aced every thing...guess she's growing like a bean sprout? LOL

Well...it's rained every single day. Not downpours, but enough to keep things a bit sticky. Although many others were affected by the flooding, we weren't. I figure FEMA wasn't called in so everyone can count themselves lucky.

Life kept getting in my way, so I didn't start painting until today - but it is taking FOREVER to dry. Too much dampness in the air I guess. I figured to do the entry first, then move on to the living room.  With its slanted ceiling and odd shaped walls, weirdly placed trim - it's much more difficult to paint, as one can barely use a roller. I'm a bit disappointed in the 'sundrenched sand' colour. Maybe it will darken up as it dries, but right now it looks - white. evileye I'll check and see if it needs another coat tomorrow before moving onto the trim.  Sure, Wolfie, I'll come paint the kitchen for you. Only cost ya a round trip ticket and putting me up. lol

Good job, Shen!!! Whoo-hooo!!!  You sure made Grandma proud!

Fergie, it sounds to me with all your outages, you might be wise to invest in a few things. We don't have them here that often (which is why it's such a big deal when it does happen - everyone goes into WTH mode. lol). If they last very long (hardly ever) I get to laugh at my neighbors with their fancy electric stoves, because I have a gas oven. Surely, you have some preparations for when the power goes? Especially if it happens in winter - shiver.

yeah,to say the least on electric stove.i laugh at people for that.but yet,i cant help but wonder how they cook,or what ever when there's no power.and yes,we have a gas stove n oven.and i also have a camp stove for camping if our propane runs out for the stove n oven.and yes.it has run low a few times..

the rain here finally backed off long enough where i finally planted habenero and cayenne in 2 different square pots.and jalapeno in 1 long pot 2 days ago.and tomato in a 15 gallon pot..now it's a matter of waiting to see if they come up,and if i get anything from them or not.

We are not 'big' on gas here in SA. Remember, we are a few decades behind 'developed' countries. Very few folks have gas cookers. It is only since 2008 that some (that can afford them) have been installing them - they cost up to three times more than electric stoves. In our old house (back in the early 70s) we still had an old Aga stove, which was wonderful in winter, but hell in summer. The supermarkets, and those who could afford them, have invested in their own private generators.

We do have a small, refillable gas tank in the kitchen. Just to boil water on, or for 'one pot cooking'. 'Outside', in our braai (BBQ) area, which is still under roof, we have a two-plate cooker with a larger gas tank. We also have a rechargeable fluorescent lamp and a paraffin lamp, besides the candles. So we are not entirely dependent on electricity. It only comes to stuff like ironing, our fridge (it's not such a hassle in winter) and our PC, that leaves us wringing our hands in despair.

Wolfie, you are lucky that your power is only dependent on the weather, although yours goes out for longer out for longer periods of time. They have actually set up a schedule for when our power is supposed to go out - what a joke! They never stick to the darned schedule! Nine times out of ten, we are taken by surprise.
Thank you Wolfie, we too are over the moon about Shenay acing all her subjects. I had a giggle at your analogy (growing like a bean-sprout), here in SA, our normal analogy would be "Growing like a weed", but you are correct, her growth catches me by surprise every time we fetch her for the weekend. It seems she will be a tall young lady, as she still has a couple of years left to grow in.
Hope your crops give you a bumper yield!

Val, I hope your paint dries quicker now, and the colour lives up to your expectations. It is so disappointing when you expect one thing, and it turns out to be another.
And Proud?? Hmm..... you have no idea! Thrilled is more like it. Wish my own kids could have done this at school, *sigh*! But I mustn't complain, our girls have all made us proud in their own ways, later in life. We are exceptionally lucky that they turned out so well - we must have done something right, eh?

Eh...the color for the walls just isn't as dark as I thought and still looks rather white. But - at least it looks clean! lol   On the down side, apparently I'm allergic to something in this particular brand of paint. evileye  I seem able to paint for only short bursts of time and will develop a headache, am itching like mad, and breaking out in hives.  Hopefully, I'll be able to finish the entry tomorrow.

I'm suppose to go shopping with a friend, and I'm going to see about getting perhaps a quart of brown or yellow paint and mixing it into the sundrenched sand for the living room.  Just to have a bit more contrast with the white trim.

I had a good giggle at Kirby, my cat today.  I had just finished painting the window sill, and that furball tried jumping up into the window. Of course he got paint on his paws and had kitty prints all over before I could catch him. He kept looking at me very accusingly like I had done this on purpose to him. Have you ever tried washing off a cat's paws? I think I prefer to participate in professional wrestling.  Once the bottom half of the window was dry, I closed the window so I could do the top half - and the idjit tried jumping up there again only to meet with the glass! Again, I was the recipient of dirty looks, once he got the WTH look of his face. He swaggered off with a 'how dare you laugh at ME. I meant to bounce off like that!' glare in my direction.

I guess the only other news from here is August first my block is planning a yard sale.  Mentally, I'm already thinking about things I can put out to sell.

ahh fergie..i forgot about where your located..you probably have better sources of light then i do,when it comes to power outages, and planned outages...i haven't heard the term paraffin lamp in i don't know how long..that might be a good idea for me to look into..

Growing like a weed,is used here to..i sometimes wonder where these analogies come from.and how they get started.

val..those of been some mighty funny sights with the cat..get any vedios? LOL..
i need to have another yard sale..in which i have been (slowly) getting more yard sale items togeather.in which i do have one certain area in my garage for yard sale items.this way, getting the stuff out and setting it up is kept simply n easy with out it being to much work.
