So sorry to hear about your mom, Wolfie. Hope things can be sorted out quickly and she is soon on the road to recovery.

I still can't see your photos. My PC has been giving me up-hill lately, so the problem is probably on my side.

BTW, Val, Ray says he could give you the recipe, but then he would have to kill you....LOL
I'll see if I can wangle it out of him and send it to you personally.

I am finally on summer break from work. Today marks the 4th day, and all I've really managed to do is sleep, and take naps.  Jerome was beginning to worry that there was something wrong with me.

Something very strange - nearly all my 'summer' clothes have gone missing.  They're not in the closet or in any drawer.  Much too small for Jerome to wear and much too big (and short) for his girlfriend.  I don't remember throwing them out (and why would I?). They just seem to be gone.  Just one more thing for me to be scratching my head over, I guess.

my mom is still in the hospital, and with issues.it looks like to me that we're gonna have more medical expense's then what we already have.so i started a go fund me account.and because of that. im wondering if it'd be alright to post a link to it here,or some other area..

By all means you can post that link, Wolfie!  Not sure how much good it'll do, but every lil bit helps

This is one of my latest digital creations, Zombie Granny.   Not too sure I'd be in a big hurry to hug or get a kiss from her... She says "I could just eat you up!" She probably means for reals.

Feeling a bit better and not as worn out as I was.  Thank the Lord.

Granny zombie looks terrifying Val.

Wolfie, I hope your mom is doing well.

I have been flat on my back, literally, for almost 4 weeks. I did my back a mischief while cleaning house the day before Father's Day. I can now tell you that our bedroom ceiling needs painting, my curtains could do with a good wash and my bed is 28 steps from the loo. I can also tell you that having a pinched nerve in your back is the pits!
I am getting better slowly, thank goodness. I can sit for more than ten minutes without excruciating pain, but I still cant bend to put on pants by myself. At least I have Shen here for the school holidays; she has been such a sweetheart.

Ouchie, Fergie!  My daughter has a healing back too, and it seems to take forever to heal.  Very good thing that Shen is around!

Glad to hear your Mom is doing better, Wolfie.

I've been working on another addition to my Trespauze site. This is a hidden object game called The Witch's Kitchen.  So we have Trespauze Manor ~ a haunted Victorian House, Loss Mine, which is abandoned and you explore via flashlight, Twisted Tombstones ~ a collection of my creepier tales, and soon the Witch's Kitchen will be added.

Other than that... things are very quiet.

My..it surely is quiet in here.

Part of me says 3 Paws has lived well past its time.  15 years is an extraordinary life span for a website, and yet - I can't quite bring myself to click the delete button on it. If nothing else it brings back an awful lot of memories. The days when 'chat' was all the rage  -times when we'd have as many as 100 people filling the screen all at once! But most times we were a cozy group of under 20, who met nightly. Then MSN decided to do away with public chat and sentenced us to 'group rooms'. Unless you belonged to the group you couldn't chat. Everyone missed public chat a lot.  I knew there had to be a way to beat MSN at its own game, to bring 'public chat' back in some form. I also knew how possessive managers could be of their groups, always viewing things as an attempt to 'steal' their membership, which I had no desire to do. However, I did convince them to allow me to build 'bridges' between our groups that would allow them access to my chat room. With any manager being allowed to co-host. I kept primary control.

Then fate stepped in and I made the acquaintance of an internet radio dj named Nomad. My wheels churned, and he was willing. So we gave out invites to all interested groups to join us for an evening of music with live djs. "Chat like it use to be!" I remember we had so many listeners we blew up the station at one point, and they had to scramble to increase their listening coverage, and so many bridges were built! Oh my! It was such a success that Nomad came to play music 2 or 3 times a week, "Live from 3 Paws Saloon!" Very quickly, managers of rooms I didn't know were contacting me about using our chat room. It was good, until MSN decided it was going to axe groups as well...

Once again I was scrambling to find us a new home. We moved to Spark Pea for chat, and here for everything else. Once again I was building 'bridges', spanning together various pieces to recreate what we once had.

I guess the chat died when I returned to college 5 years ago. It was already limping, but I just couldn't work 2 jobs and go to school full time, and chat with any regularity. Many had already turned to FaceBook.  I completed a 4 year course in 2, graduating with Honours 'Cum Laude', but too late to salvage any part of the chat. Folks had moved on. I can't blame them.

Slowly, in the shadow of big social media folks drifted away from here too.  I come in and blow away the cobwebs, dance down memory lane.  Musical throws around foam rocks, and Plum pushes me off the swing. CT is encouraging me to try for EMT licensing, folks are flirting.  Various things that made me laugh, shared tears...  Good times.

yeah.there's lots of good times when it comes to msn chat and groups..then msn messed things up.then here comes facebook...then we all started to spread out to other places on the internet..while some passed away..it's sad how some things change, for the better and worse at the same time...and now here i am,with the passing of my mom..so much to think of.and so much to do..

the web site in which i have my forum, they have a shout box of sorts,at the bottom of each page.pluss the forum/group can be,pretty well set up the way the admin/creator of the wants it..if you wanna down size this one..

Hi guys!

Firstly, Wolfie, so sorry to hear about your mom. Hope things are going well/better for you.

Secondly, Val, I too have had a bit of a problem logging in. Besides that, I have been rather busy with family matters, and just plain "not in the mood" for writing. I have also been away for a while. house/babysitting.

Shenay has now finished writing her final exams for Primary School. Her final day of the school year is on 6 Dec. She has so far received the results for her math and social studies exams. 80% and 72% respectively. Not as good as she had hoped, but a decent pass at least on those subjects.
Her new uniform for High School has been bought - OMW, the price is ridiculous! Over R6000; so failing is NOT an option for her.

Nicky spent her 50th birthday with long-time friend Karen in Umlanga Rocks, a holiday resort on our west coast just north of Durban. The Universe gave her a birthday present to remember - food poisoning!

Ray started his Xmas stint early this year, in Rustenburg, an hour and a half drive away from home. He and Cleo (the dog) were ecstatic when I arrived home yesterday late afternoon (to a very messy house). I have my work cut out for me for the next few days. I have started on the laundry and dishes already - floors and inch thick dust will have to wait a bit. I was planning to do my yearly sewing for Shen, but that has come a few days later, I guess, LOL.

Welcome home, Fergie!  I sympathize with the house work. I really should be doing some as I should put up the tree soon. Just not feeling Christmasy yet.  Every morning I tell myself, "After work, you can do____", but then after it's "I'm too darn tired." Come's the weekend and more of the same - just too tired.

Small bit of exciting (for me anyway) news: I've been hired to create a website for an UK artist! Been awhile since I've done one for pay.  So. I've been collecting the various plug-ins, codings etc. to make it do what she wants. Hopefully over the Holidays I'll get it up and running for her.

Wolfie, you doing ok, bud?

Aah! Thanks for the warm welcome, Val.

Oh my goodness! Congratulations, Val. That certainly is exciting news. Knowing you, the website will be spectacular. It would be lovely if this is just the first commission of many to come.

Last Saturday, Nicky held a get-together for her friends, in honour of her birthday. It was held at a venue out of town - a lovely double-storied, thatched, stone building. Lots of willow trees beside a meandering rivulet, and rolling green lawns. 23 people attended, some of whom had been in high school with her. She received a lot of lovely gifts.
Shen was thrilled when she was allowed to wear pink lipstick and nail polish to match her outfit. AND, for the first time ever, a smidgen of eye-liner and no glasses. She looked quite grown up. Many commented on how pretty she was. I was so proud of 'my girls', as Nicky also looked lovely in her navy and red outfit.

Yesterday, I spent the morning mending a Santa suit, then doing Santa's washing. Ray insist that his gloves must be snowy white; not always an easy task when he brings them home so dirty.

Last night was Shen's farewell to Grade 7 western style "Barn Dance". Ray bought her a western hat, and I sewed fringes onto a checked shirt for her. In time, I hope I can post a few pics.

I have made arrangements to collect Shen after her final day at primary school tomorrow.

I have missed you, Fergie.

Work has been a royal pain this year.  The past couple of months it's gotten to the point I cry almost daily, or feel upset. Normally, I'd write it off to my seasonal depression due to Josh's passing, but it seems like no one, not even the managers are happy at work.

Aaw! Thank you Val.

Seems like you need a change, Val. Definitely not good to work under those conditions. Just now you will be having a nervous break-down, and what then? Loss of job? I know you have been working there for ages, but to me, it sounds like time to get out. Do yourself a favour; you simply can't carry on that way.

As for me? I am on cloud 9 at the moment. Shen has completed Primary School with 4 distinctions. The family is soo proud of her. Nicky remarked, "Angel must be smiling down at her too!".
Shenay says she had a lovely time at her "Barn Dance". LOL, she was limping for three days afterwards. I think she pulled a muscle in her buttock, with all her gyrating on the dance floor.

We (Shen & I) had a nightmare ride home on Wednesday. Ray had arranged with his friend to take me to collect Shen from Nicky's work. Harry, the friend, complained of a headache when I climbed into his VW Kombi. (He suffers from high blood pressure.) On the way home, his headache became worse, and he said his vision was impaired. He turned very pale and started sweating - I thought he was going to pass out. By some miracle, we arrived home safely, despite Harry's erratic driving.
Soon after arriving home, Shen climbed into her pj's and went for a lie-down. I tootled off to my friend across the road for a short visit. On my return, Shen told me of soft footsteps, up and down our passage, and the click of a lighter - she thought it was me. When I returned, she heard my keys in the security gate, and realized it hadn't been me. So, hmm?

That ride does indeed sound like a nightmare! Thankfully no one was hurt.

"Therein lies the rub," pretty much sums up my job situation. I can't afford to quit without having another job in my hip pocket. Between my age, and no car finding another job is pretty slim.  Although I have been very vocal as to how I feel with upper management (bosses' bosses). The problem boils down to too few hands for the workload. Their solution was to move the work load around.
Seriously ?  Same amount of work, redistributed over the same number of folks, is still the same amount of work.  I don't see where they think this bit of smoke and mirrors will help, but I'm willing to give it a try.

What a cute pic of Shen! I'm glad she had fun at the dance.

Did Angel smoke by any chance? (Thinking of the lighter flicking.)

Val, there is just no reasoning with bosses, they only see things one way - their way.
Yep, having no transport is a big bug-bear. You don't know of a friend-of-a friend who could keep an ear to the ground to look out for a job near home? I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Angel used to smoke. She gave up three years before her death. Do you think she could have taken up the habit again?

Nicky used to colour her hair, now she is letting it grow out. Lol. She is actually more grey that me now, but the look is very fashionable here, at the moment. I am posting a pic of her with some of her presents at the party.

Well, hopefully 2018 is treating you nicer than me so far. Where's the cheese? I need it to go with my whine.  Seriously...

I was getting assistance for food and medical through the state. Then for some reason they decided all I need is $15 a month for food, and I no longer qualified for the medical.  So of course, I've broken a tooth. I'm to go for a redetermination on the help I get for utilities on the 17th, and I'm scared they'll take that too.  The federal gov. says I HAVE to have insurance, and the cheapest I can get is over 200 a month... Its the Lackamoola curse!!! *screams*

Oh, well...that's life huh?

I'll forgive you this time, Wolfie.

Well, I finished that website, and Jen loved it! It's my first ever completely mobile friendly website, so there was a learning curve. If you want a peek:   http://gaiacreations.co.uk/Index.html

A mutual friend of ours, was telling me that Jen was singing my praises all over the place. That did my poor ego so much good.

Sorry Val, I have been too much of a coward to reply to you, up until now.

I hope all of your $ woes turned out okay, with no more cuts. How can anyone survive on $15 a month? This is 2018, not 1918 for heavens sake! How is your broken tooth, did you manage to fix it?

I am happy for you, about your website that you created. Knowing you, I am sure it is great! I haven't been able to go into it yet - been having a few problems with my PC - lots of error 504 and 502 thingies coming up, also have problems logging onto this site. No, I didn't forget my password, lol.

On 14th Jan. Kyle (our eldest grandson) brought Nicky over to celebrate with Shen, Ray and I. We had cheese, crackers and margaritas for starters in our lapa; it was (only) 37C out there. We decided to come indoors, where it was cooler, for the main meal. Shen baked lemon/chocolate swirl muffins for dessert, but we were all too replete to eat them; gave them out as a take-away. And darn, I forgot to take pics!
Ray and Kyle were drinking a new brand of non-alcoholic beer that has come on the market. Kyle was longing for a roadblock on the way home, where he would be asked to take a breathalyzer test. He is a mischievous devil!

Shen started high school today. She spent Wednesday to Friday last week, at a school camp. A sort of "get together" to get to know her teachers and class mates. She said she had a ball; made 7 friends.

Hmmm... error 504 is a gateway timeout. Simply put one server isn't answering the other server in a timely manner. Which has nothing to do with your PC.   Sometimes refreshing the page helps, or using a different browser.

No, haven't gotten my tooth looked at yet, as I was waiting on 'proof of insurance'. So much fun. At least nothing hurts -yet.

Hard to believe Shen's in high school.

Be thankful for small mercies, Val. As long as the tooth isn't hurting, or cutting your tongue, you can hang onto hope. Recently, I had a crown 'disintegrate'. First I had the top come off, a few days later the pin came out. Our local (free) clinic won't repair it, and I don't have the funds to go to a normal dentist. The Uni, where Ray had his teeth done is in an uproar still, over fees and whatever they can find to riot about. So that avenue is still closed. *Sigh!*

Val, our school system is a bit different to yours. We have pre-school, (which didn't exist when I was a child) then primary school grades 1-7; high school grades 8-12. Thereafter, one can go to college or Uni.

I am posting pics of Shen in her grade 7 uniform, the last two are of the new, grade 8 uniform - last one is a selfie she took in her Friday uniform. (Blazers are mandatory for Fridays!)

Hi Fergie,

Grades here are a bit different too: Pre-school, then elementary (k-6), Middle school (aka Junior High) 7-8, then High School 9-12.  Then either Junior college, college or university. Although in some areas Middle School has 6-8.

Is it common for school's to have uniforms there? Here it's just the private schools, public they wear just about anything. For a short time, back when my kids were small they tried to enforce uniforms at the public, but I guess it didn't work out.

Hi Val & Fergie,

Sorry to hear about your teething woes. I hope you can put off the need until the timing is better for you both. Visiting the dentist isn't one of my favourite moments either. There's the discomfort and the acute pain, especially in the hip pocket. But remember to floss and gargle with a mouth rinse after every meal to keep evil Dr DK away. brushteeth.gif

Fergie, thanks for sharing those happy snaps. I found an old photo of me celebrating my 50th in 2014 with a neighbour, who's a good friend. Then another one of Dave (Rex) and me celebrating him being cancer-free for a year in 2016. Here's to happy times ahead for us all this year. biggrin

Morning all,

Anyone up for coffee?  It's 3:15 AM here.

Great 'seeing' you and Rex, Jadeite. I hope you enjoy your time in the attic. Feel free to poke about. Lots to do.

Yesterday fell into the somewhat odd category for me. 5 AM, I was smelling popcorn. It was a very in your face (up your nose?) smell, but only in my bedroom. I can't rule out that it was from the downstairs neighbors, but then it would have been in the stairwell (common area) as well, I think.  Then I smelled it again at work, but no one had any. Off and on all day, I was smelling popcorn, no one else was though.

Then once I was back home, around 3/4 PM, I heard this 'scratching' like sound from my ceiling (bedroom) corner. I'd get up to investigate and it'd stop. So pretty sure not a short of some kind. Our 'attic' isn't really an attic, more of an overhead crawlspace. Since it's winter and cold out, I suspect a bird/squirrel or something like that somehow found it's way in, and was constructing some type of nest. By 5 (when it's dark out) the sounds stopped. I'll have to see if they repeat tonight. (I leave for work before daylight.)

Today is 'late' start, we normally go in like 20 minutes later, but because they want like 80 extra subrolls, I'm going in regular time so that I can proof them.  It never ceases to amaze me that the powers that be never stop to think extra stuff takes extra time, and 365 subrolls take time.  Plus, I need to make dinner rolls and some seasoned (Garlic and herb) ones as well. Add to this the pizzas, and boscos (already did a few days worth of cookies), and the fact I'm not the only one using the ovens, and it can get complicated. Oh, well... it is what it is, I suppose.

An Aussie 'good morning' to you all from T-Rex,

Really Val, smelling popcorn is not something I'd like before brekkie. I'm more of a hobbit - the smell of fresh baked bread and bacon. If it's ghostly, the smell will suffice!!

Fergie, your unplanned trip to New Zealand (+ photo's) brought back fond memories of our (very much) planned honeymoon in NZ. We did both North and South Islands and found photo opportunities around every bend in the road. The funniest experience for us and the crew (only) was flying in a thirty seater jet between the Islands. The ride was a bit 'bouncy' and the other twenty eight passengers were a Japanese touring party who all proceeded to get excited then very sick all at the same time. Jadeite and me ended up spending most of the flight in the Captain's Cabin taking photo's of the Southern Alps. The touring party all recovered (at the same time) once the plane touched down.

I'm inspired to pull our travel diary together with photo's of our trip to the American South West (we had joined the digital age by then). Most natives will probably be a little bit 'ho hum' but you can't go past the Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, Yosemite and Zion National Parks for nature's wonders.

I Don't Believe It !! I wrote out a whole long post, clicked send, and the whole thing disappeared -Poof! Gone!
Aah well, lets try again.

Val, I see they are still piling the work on, no respite - poor you!
The popcorn smell - does it remind you of anyone in particular? Or a memory of an occasion with a deceased person? Rattle your brain a bit, maybe it will come to you.

Jadeite & T-Rex, lucky, lucky you! What a wonderful honeymoon you must have had. NZ is beautiful. We only managed to see bits of the North Island on public holidays and weekends. My brother took leave a bit later to honeymoon in the US.

T-Rex, please write up your journals, with pics, I would love to read/see them.

T-Rex, I second Fergie's vote. You simply must write it up! Reading and 'seeing' other's travels is about as close as I get to actually going myself!

We're in the flu/cold season here, and work sees us down 2 or more people daily, and nearly everyone who is there, has some complaint (headache, or body aches, sniffles, etc.) Between the 2 cooks and myself, we're a walking pharmacy. Pain relievers, cough drops, and the like - what ever the need one of us is bound to have something for it. Tomorrow we go in earlier than usual because of a catering, that has to be done by 7:30. The thing is, we have to do it on top of our other work. So, at 5:30 AM, Jan, Richard, and I will be there.  (Actually I'm a 'surprise', my regular ride won't be going in, so if I want a ride I need to go in with Jan.) Normally, I'd walk in - it isn't even a full mile, but in these temps, I'd rather not. Besides, if I don't end up helping them, it isn't like I don't have stuff to do.

T-Rex is busy sorting out the hundreds of photos we took on our trip to California. We went with a tour group comprised mainly of Aussies, a lovely Kiwi couple, Belgium newly-weds and 2 retired school-teachers from Florida. It was a fun group. We looked out for each other, made sure no one strayed too far or got left behind. By the end of the journey, we'd become a little unit. We made a number of friends on our tour and still keep in touch with each other.

My travelling teddy bear came with us. I also 'adopted' a white bear from Universal Studios, who told me that her name was Holly Wood. The bears had the back row of the coach all to themselves for the whole trip.

The photo in the lobby is taken in LA. It's an actual apartment building which is now the Charlie Chaplin Museum. They filmed a scene from the original "Bladerunner" movie with Harrison Ford there. It was the setting for where the creator of the replicants lived. Great atmosphere. It had a "crowded" feel, but not in a bad way. Just a strong sense of history.

We travelled through Arizona on the famous Route 66!

The Grand Canyon was truly spectacular. Rex has a healthy respect for heights - note how tightly he's holding on to the railing. I shall leave the main details the trip to him though...

Jadite, forgive me for not replying sooner, I've been down with the flu. It's been all I could do to edit a handful of stories for YGS.

I actually kind of miss old 66.  At one time it was the longest highway in the US (it covered from Chicago to Santa Monica, Cal. A total of 2248 miles)! It ran through 8 of the states, but was decommissioned in the 80's. Now days, you can't even find it on modern maps. Although I40 follows and even replaces most of the old 66 - but it just isn't the same.  But then what is?

Looks like you guys had a blast though! Everyone should share Rex's 'respect for heights' to some extent, otherwise we'd all be falling off ledges and out windows.

Not sure I told you guys this, but I was on Medicaid (state funded health insurance) but do to cuts lost it, so I literally got health insurance 'proof' maybe 2 weeks ago, through work. Monday, I woke for work feeling horrible, so I called off. Not much better on Tuesday, so I called a doctor.  Seriously, there are 3 offices under a mile by me, and all 3 said, "we only see new patients on Friday."  WTH...  If I was still sick enough to need a doctor by then, I may as well go straight to the hospital, because what ever it was would be real serious.  I don't have a car, so I walk most places, but being sick, in this cold, walking 2 or 3 miles didn't sound too smart or appealing. I sent a SOS to my daughter, hoping she could help when she got off work. When she called as soon as I said, 'hello', she said, "You sound terrible. Do you need me?" I told her, "I need a doctor," which scared her a bit, because I don't go to the doctor unless I HAVE to. Generally, I'm very healthy, and can use home remedies to kick any virus butt.  She took me up to the walk-in clinic, where I was diagnosed with Influenza (sounds much nastier than the flu, don't it?) , which I knew I had. But this gives me a work note.

Hi Val, so sorry to hear about the nasty bout of Influenza. sick.gif Having the flu is no picnic. I hope you got plenty of rest and that you're much better now. sleep.gif

T-Rex and I get the flu vaccine before every winter. I get mine free as a nurse comes to my work place each year (one of the few perks working for local government). Getting the flu is always risky for us. T-Rex has very little immune resistance and with my chronic asthma, flu can cause complications by becoming pleurisy or pneumonia. We were fortunate that I was able to pay for our private health insurance a whole year in advance. They were increasing the premiums and I calculated it would save us a few hundred if I could pay at the current rate. It cost us a few thousand, but the insurance ended up paying AUS$25,000 for his hospital expenses alone when he had the liver transplant. So it was worth the effort.

They had to discharge T-Rex a few weeks earlier than intended because it was a very bad flu season. So many vulnerable and elderly were admitted into hospital that they were stacked up in the corridors waiting for a doctor. Visitors coming into the hospital were being told to stay away if they had a cough or the sniffles. The doctors were worried that he would get the flu because of that, so they sent him home. I had to take charge of his initial rehabilitation for the first few weeks. Helping him in and out of bed, getting dressed, etc. All the things we take for granted when we're able-bodied.

Take care. Have lots of honey and lemon tea, chicken noodle soup (Asian version), rice congee. I made pot stickers again tonight (T-Rex had a craving) and thought of you. If we ever win Lotto, I'll send you a plane ticket to come over for a holiday so I can make them just for you and spoil you rotten! petting.gif

Hi Val,

I hope that you are recovering or (at the least) resting.

If this is the same strain of flu that we got in Australia last winter, then please don't think you can 'solder on' and make it out the other side. I saw first hand what it can do to young and old alike. I was very lucky that I didn't contract it in hospital.

Yeh, I know, I've borrowed somebody's soap box again!! Please take it easy and watch out for secondary infections, particularly of the heart.

There is no 'if' with winning the Lottery, only 'when'. So watch out for that invitation to see Australia in the mail. That also goes for some other people in SA.

I've got the first half of our USA adventure sorted out (with photos). Part 1 will be posted soon.

I am doing much better now, thanks. Funny you should mention the flu shot, as I did have one. The doctor I saw, said it only works in 10% of people, but then it probably kept it milder then it would have been without the shot. We also talked about how there's 4 different strains of it running about right now and maybe the shot isn't as effective on some as other strains.  So many cases are pouring in, they're running out of the test kits.  I know it's making it's way through work (public school - germs everywhere!). Our cook was out sick (diagnosed with a respiratory infection) same time as me (she got to go back on Thursday), and now the prep cook tells me he feels lousy. I told him to go see dr. as the sooner he gets treatment the better off he'll be.

Between Thursday and Friday we got hit with about 12 inches of snow. They actually cancelled school, and many work places were closed as well. I heard the shops all got hit hard on Thursday night. Stupid folks panicking thinking 'blizzard'.  Driving got a bit rough, but nothing really bad. Just a heavy snow fall.

It would be very cool to come see you guys. I've never been out of the States.

I haven't been entirely inactive this week. I've vamped Trespauze!!!  It is now the first of its kind to be mobile friendly! Although personally, I think it's wasted on cell phones (screens too tiny to show all the details) it can now be done on tablets, laptops (any mobile devise) as well as PCs.  Of course since I had all the pages open, may as well make some other changes as well. Added some special effects, streamlined the navigation, changed a room or two or three (not telling). Improved the contact page as well. Just hope it all makes for a more enjoyable experience. Now, I can move onto creating another adventure...I'm thinking pirates and treasure.

Hi Val,
Hope you are back to 'normal' by now. Flu can be a nasty thing. The one and only time I got a flu shot, I was off work for two weeks. I have never had it so bad before, or since. I vowed never to have a shot again. Since I stopped work, I have never had bronchitis again either.
Sounds like you have been a busy girl, with Trespauze and all. I shall take a peek when I have a chance.

Our temperatures have been averaging about 25C lately, with evening or afternoon showers. I only wish I could send some down to Cape Town; they are really suffering with the drought.

Jadeite & T-Rex, thanks for the lovely pics - that must have been some adventure! Strangely, I have never had the yen to go to the US. Maybe because the general life-style is so similar to ours.

I have been getting 'stuff' sorted out here at home, getting ready for another week of house sitting. Nicky is going on a well-deserved cruise to the Portuguese Islands with her friend Karen. It was an on/off thing for a while. Nicky was quoted a reasonable price, but when she came to pay, they wanted to charge her more than double the price - not on! Then Nicky discovered that her passport had expired. Panic stations! Everything has now been sorted out, so Ray is dropping me off at her home on Saturday morning. I shall be incommunicado again, till I get home.

I am doing much better, Fergie. In fact I went back to work on Monday. Lucky thing too, as 4 others have called off. Seems the flu is making its rounds.  Time off is varying. Some are only a day or two, some longer.

I did have a sweet thing happen. One of the girls gave me her number. She said," I know you don't have a car, and I started thinking what if you needed something? So now, if you need you can call me."

Another house sitting adventure?  In my book even if nothing happens, it's still an adventure as you're somewhere else than home. smile You must tell us all about it, when you get back. How long will you be gone?

Val, I am happy to hear that you are feeling better. I hate feeling icky, and I am sure you do too.

What a lovely gesture the lady made. Lifts can be hard to come by. That is the only thing I dread when Ray is working, when I really need to get to the shops and I have no transport. That happens when I am house sitting for Nicky too. I hate to ask folks for a lift, but it is different when they offer.

I should be back home on the 25th Feb. from my house sitting stint. Who knows how long it will take to clean up the 'womanless' house when I get back, lol.

I forgot to answer a question you asked a while back. All schools wear uniforms here. Every now and then, they will have a civvies day, but the children will have to pay (a small amount) for the privilege.  Yesterday was a civvies day; they could dress in pink, or read and white, being Valentines Day.

Last Friday, they had a Valentine's Ball at school - Shenay's first. What to wear? Nicky didn't want to buy her an expensive dress which would only be worn once. Eventually, they settled on the white lacy ****tail dress I had given her for Christmas. She accessorized by wearing a red, string choker with matching red suede sandals (with a small heel) and a diamante bracelet (which had belonged to Angel.) I wish Ray would hurry up and download the pics to my PC.

Sitting here feeling rather chuffed with myself. I stood up for myself at work against the highest managers (my boss's boss, his boss, and his boss's boss).  I've always had a hard time standing up for myself - for anyone else no problem. Maybe that's linked to my past - being told over and over that I was worthless and an utter failure, and no matter what I said I was wrong. I don't know. So, I usually just take it when it comes to criticisms. What's the point when you can't win? It escalates into an 'argument', if you say anything, you're being 'argumentative' and you have a 'temper' problem.

Anyway, I was told they had said my specialty pizzas were over cooked (too dark), and that was like 3000% wrong. I figured maybe they didn't realize I was using the par-baked wheat base, which is naturally a lot darker than the white flour dough. So, I went up to them and said, "Excuse me - I was told you have a problem with my specialty pizzas? That they're too dark," and launched into the dough differences. They said no, they had asked why there wasn't any. I said, "Please - she has 3 in her warmer, she says she was told to remove them by the 'boss man' who said they were too dark." Instant denial by all 3 of the men.  So I said, "Ok, maybe she misunderstood something. I'll go tell her to put them back out, and reassure her by saying if there's a problem you should come talk to me. OK? Because we all know if you're sniping behind my back - that just makes you a meanie, and rather silly."  They actually laughed, and said, "No, if there was a problem we'd tell you."  I always try to insert some humour.  Anyway, YAY, ME!

Yay Val - good for you! I hate all the harm that people do when they put belittling "tags" on someone. But here's when the stubbornness in me keeps me going.

What others call being "argumentative", I tell myself it means "having an opinion" and an "independent mind".

A "temper" is what I call having "fire in the belly" and a "passion for what I believe in".

It's all a matter of perspective. Don't let the turkeys get you down! thumbsup.gif

Good for you Val,

There comes a time when you have to stand up for yourself and sometimes it's about the timing, coupled with you choosing your battleground.

The fact that they backed down from their BS explanation (it's always a misunderstanding) is conceding the round to you. What I don't understand is why it takes 3 of the 'top brass' to ask the simple question 'Why were the specialty pizza's so dark?' and ask the wrong person. Do they know how their business operates?

I just hope that they are not 'seeing problems where there are none' and 'fixing things that aren't broken'.

OK, taken my Business Analyst hat off as I'm probably wrong anyway (but not about standing up for yourself).

Sounds like you are over the flu and that makes me happy too.

Yeppers, I'm over the flu, but it's running rampant here. 2 of the schools had to close due to it (both were private schools).  In case you're wondering , there's 26 private schools and 52 public ones, in my city.

Every day at work is seeing another 2-4 folks down with it (that's just my kitchen staff, I don't know how many  students and faculty might be as well). Some school's are reporting 25 - 50% out with it.

Here's an interesting tidbit for you:  my school district  dates back to 1836 (private subscription schools were in 1834) and is the oldest in Illinois, recognized in 1851.

Hi Val,

There must be a lot of history attached to your school. That's almost 200 years. Wow!! biggrin.gif

I found out about my school's reputation when I went for my first job interview. This elder statesman, on the interview panel, looked down his nose at me and quoted Ian Dury's immortal line about 'sex and drugs and rock & roll'. I smiled at him and he smiled at me. I didn't get the job.  disbelief.gif

His loss and my gain - I learnt to focus on my grades and not the name of the school at the next interview.

Enjoying a lazy Sunday afternoon. Sure, I should be cleaning house, but I figure the dirt will wait on me. lol

So, a bit back Jadeite was gifting me some ideas for virtual adventures to add to Trespauze.  One that she and T Rex offered up was actually based on a chat over on YGS, that dealt with pirates and treasure hunting. The idea of a haunted treasure hunt intrigues me, it really does.  Finding a hidden map, following clues...  Of course I can't possibly incorporate that entire chat into the adventure (pretty sure I'd end up in trouble over copyright on some of those 'elements') and some of them would require far more gaming knowledge than I have to really do it justice. BUT, y'all think that'd stop ME??? lol Of course not.  Not sure how 'scary' it'll be, but it's bound to be fun, I hope.

Anyway, the reason I bring this up, is I need a good name for it. Something better then 'treasure hunt'.  Anyone have any ideas?

All my teddy bears piped up in a chorus of "bucket-ears, bucket-ears"! They mean buccaneers, of course. twocents.gif

So let's start with alternate names:

  • For "pirate": buccaneers, raider, corsair, marauders, sea rover, free-booter, privateer, swashbuckler, adventurer, wanderer, fortune-hunter
  • Then other names for "hunt": quest, expedition, jaunt, trek, search, exploration, safari, enterprise
  • "Treasure" is also known as: riches, cache, hoard, jewels, gems, gold, wealth, prize
  • "Ghost" as in: phantom, demon, shadow, soul, spectre, spirit, spook, wraith, vampire, zombie,
  • We could also play on the word "haunt"as a place: gathering place, hangout, club, bar, den, lair, abode.

Quest to the Faraway East

Raiders of the Spirit Hoard

Marauder's Prize

Fortune Favours the Ghoul

Cache me if you can

Tomb of the Vampire Queen

Hoarder's Gold

Foolhardy's Gold

Ghostly Galleon

The Voyage of the Black Sparrow

Riddle of the Hungry Ghosts

Quest of the Shadowraiths

biggrin Ok, ok, I'm keep working on it...!
